Job Description
Fenix International (http://fenixintl.com) is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and experienced Operations Manager to provide operations leadership and support for the Fenix Tanzania team and suite of products. This person will work with a growing Tanzania team, as well as the East Africa Operations Manager, to manage operations, accounting, end user financing, office management, HR & Admin support.
This position offers an incredible opportunity to work with an elite team of business professionals and engineers and directly contribute to the success of a US-based startup company in East Africa. Candidates must have a passion for renewable energy, entrepreneurship and technology in Frontier Markets. This position will be located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and may require some minimal domestic travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the East Africa Operations Manager to set up effective, innovative and scalable operations systems for Fenix Tanzania and help replicate them in new Fenix markets as needed
- Set up & manage inventory and product tracking systems
- Set up & manage procurement, importing, storage and shipping system for Fenix products and other inputs
- Manage Fenix Tanzania’s internal financing to end user customers; designing affordable payment profiles for the BoP, track repayment and develop innovative methods of debt collection.
- Manage the Fenix Tanzania Operations Coordinator
- Contribute to Fenix’s Sales & Marketing efforts as needed
- Work with Operations Teams in other Fenix markets to share and incorporate best practices
- Closely support product testing and pilots with multinational mobile network operators, international NGOs, microfinance institutions, and other distribution collaborators
- Analyze and interpret data collected from Fenix pilots, customer surveys, warranty cards and information from MNO and MFI partners
- Generate Sales Reports and contribute to other reports for partners, Board of Directors, investors etc
- General support for Fenix Tanzania team as needed
Required Skills & Experience
- Three (3) years minimum work experience, ideally in Operations or Finance
- Leadership experience (professional leadership/management experience, experience creating and implementing a new project or business, leadership experience in sports or other extra curricular activities, etc)
- Experience hiring &/or managing people
- Education and/or work experience in both East Africa and abroad
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills (English)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access & Google Apps
- Ability and drive to work independently
- Bachelors degree
- Strong excel skills; Experience creating and managing budgets
- At least one year of work experience in East Africa
- Passion for and commitment to growing a high-potential start-up company in East Africa
Other desired skills (but not required)
- Keen understanding of the mobile telecom and/or renewable energy industries in East Africa
- Understanding of rural BOP markets in East Africa
- Understanding of Kiswahili
- Understanding of Quickbooks
