Video: ReadySet Entrepreneur Starts Successful Phone Charging Business in Uganda

Annette is a ReadySet entrepreneur who works with the Grameen Foundation AppLab as a Community Knowledge Worker.  Grameen gave the ReadySet to Annette through an affordable micro-loan, and she can now operate a micro-utility business by charging mobile phones and no longer has to use dangerous and costly kerosene lamps. Annette was able to earn enough income to be able to pay back the investment of the ReadySet in 3-4 months. She uses this additional income to better provide for her family.

Entrepreneurs like Annette illustrate the impact Fenix envisioned when we created the ReadySet.  The ReadySet empowers entrepeneurs to become micro-utilities in their communities, earning money for providing energy as a service.  It also helps MTN, Africa's largest mobile telecom, increase energy for telecommunications access among Ugandans living without electricity.

Fenix launched the ReadySet through MTN Uganda in 2011, and it is currently available for sale in Uganda exclusively at MTN retail outlets.

whoaw... this is the best investment for my grandmother in the village where there is no electricity and yet all her neighbours have mobile phones. in order to charge a phone they have to take them to a next town which is 4miles from their community and they charge minimum 3 times in a month, so they switch off their phones every minute to economize the battery charge which hinders their business with other farmers from the city.thanks FENIX INTL.CO
